Craft Show Tomorrow!

I'm a ball-full of excitement right now getting ready for a craft show at the Propel Braddock Hills Elementary School! This comes after participating in another craft show last night. That one went well and I'm already getting more customers from it!

What people like about The PaperCrafter's Nook is its uniqueness. Not only do I share my handmade unique cards and invitations with the world, but my customers share their uniqueness with me when they want custom-designed cards and invitations.

It's a great time to be creative. There is so much community to be found online and off! And, everyone is so welcoming if you just try. I hope this gives hope to others out there like myself who were struggling with the decision to put their everything into their own business!

Creatively Yours,
Rachael Caskey

Cute as a button...Grandeurina Etsy Shop!

Hi Blog & Facebook fans!

For a little change of pace, I'm going to feature some Etsy shops you should check out. Ahem...the holidays are coming up. These would be great places to start your shopping for unique gifts!

Our first stop is at Grandeurina.

At Grandeurina you can find a plethora of button-y cuteness. I'm talking fabric buttons with Japanese designs, cute hair clips and accessories as well as earrings like the Japanese kimono fabric button earrings pictured!

Here is some background on the artist behind the Grandeurina Etsy shop, according to her profile:

She is Chinese, born in Singapore where multi-culture is the trend.

Her pieces are usually inspired by her thoughts, family members, cultures, old buildings and sometimes some traditional outfits like cheongsum (worn by Chinese) and kebaya (worn by Malay).

Days when she is free, she loves to take a seat at crowded places watching people walking by and drawing inspirations from their outfits and trying to figure out what accessories will appeal to them apart from what they are wearing.

Also, she is very inspired by Michael Kors who said that living in such hot climate (eg. Singapore), we do not have the luxury to do layering in our clothing but we can always depend on our accessories to make that statement. So True!

She loves being different and it shows in her creations which is why most of the art piece are PURPOSELY MISMATCHED!!! Each has a story to tell.

Happy Shopping!

Tip #4: Choose your lettering styles.

Font is important!

Take time to consider the font type or lettering style(s) you want to use. For example, Birchcraft Studios offers over 60 different lettering styles.

Do you want a combination of lettering styles? Do you want to highlight particular lines?

Keep these questions in mind when considering your lettering styles for your invitation ensemble.

Stay tuned for Tip #5...

Happy wedding planning!

27 Tips for Invitation Ordering: A Bride's Checklist (Tip #1)

This bright white invitation is a winter wedding wonderland!

So, you're ready to order your invitations for your wedding?

But, where do you begin?

First you need to figure out your theme for your wedding. For some this can be a daunting task! For others, they knew their theme since they were little girls pretending to get married. :)

If you have trouble picking a theme, brainstorm some ideas first on paper or online. There are a lot of resources online to help you with inspiration {Pinterest, anyone?!}. But, one of the best places for brides {PERIOD.} is TheKnot.com. There you can find extensive help on themes for destination weddings, seasonally-themed weddings {spring, summer, fall, winter}, and weddings on a budget.

You can even build your own Wedding Inspiration Board on The Knot! While you're on TheKnot.com check out all the different areas you need to consider for your wedding. There is even a section called "Local Vendors" so you can work with wedding vendors in your area! The PaperCrafter's Nook is an invitations vendor listed under "Local Vendors" in the Pittsburgh/Southwest region of Pennsylvania on TheKnot.com. {However, we do serve all areas! If you're not in the Pittsburgh region, that's okay...we can help you, anyway...ain't modern technology grand!}

Once you have a themed picked out, this brings us to Tip #1:

Tip #1 ~ Be sure you order the correct quantity of invitations PLUS 25 extra invitations in case you forgot someone (very costly to reorder 25 later!).

How do you ensure you have the correct quantity?

Make a guest list ahead of time!

Consult with close relatives for their recommendations. But, ultimately remember that the final list is up to you and your significant other. Developing a wedding budget is very helpful for creating your guest list as the budget will help dictate the number of guests you should invite.

It's very important to be as organized as possible in your wedding planning. If all of this makes your head spin or you don't have the time to do all of the planning yourself, invest in a good wedding coordinator. You will save yourself time and stress when you hire someone to take care of the details for you. For this particular wedding vendor category you should definitely hire a local vendor {unless, of course, you're having a destination wedding...then you may decide to go with someone from that local or bring the coordinator with you...but that's an entirely DIFFERENT topic for another day!}. :)

If you're in the Pittsburgh area, my recommendation for a wedding coordinator is Veronica Stewart at Exquisite Events by Veronica, LLC. {Tell her Rachael Caskey from The PaperCrafter's Nook sent you!} Veronica is very sweet and quite attentive. Just check out the testimonials from her satisfied clients on her website to get an idea: http://www.eebyv.com/TESTIMONIALS.html

Stay tuned for Tip #2 tomorrow...

Happy wedding planning!

Who are we?

Hi PaperCrafter's Nook fans!

This is just a little post about who "we" are!

The PaperCrafter's Nook was started by little 'ole me...Rachael Caskey. As a corporate refugee, I now work from home on The PaperCrafter's Nook while staying at home with my two adorable sons.

My fascination and obsession with paper and design began as long ago as I can remember putting crayon to paper! Now, I put that compulsion to work for you, my clients!

We offer the same type of professional wedding invitations that you find in "brick-and-mortar" retail shops, but without the retail cost since we do not have the same overhead that a brick-and-mortar store has! Plus, we have more flexibility than typical retail stores when it comes to customization and personalization.

Contact me for a FREE consultation for your wedding or special event: rachaelcaskey@papercraftersnook.com or call: 412-403-5787.

Thank you for supporting a home-based Mom's business!
